A personal note from Dr. Malek:
Cosmetic surgery In my opinion , a skilled surgeon is trying to correct none proportional features in order to achieve symmetry of the face and body. To reach this goal the procedure must be done with accuracy and art, in order to gain the most natural and beautiful results. Every plastic surgeon needs to know the art of balance, the knowledge of beauty, and symmetry, and the understanding of three-dimensional form with a photographic memory. A truly talented surgeon has the innate understanding of these skills. Surgeons without this understanding, have trouble achieving true beauty and perfection in their work. Everyone has hidden beauty; with cosmetic surgery, a surgeon brings out and enhances this beauty. Cosmetic surgery is the correcting of faults that people believe they have in order to gain more self-confidence. Numerous studies have reported that symmetry is the key to aesthetic beauty. Even babies have been found to respond to individuals with symmetric features. With that said, a surgeon must still make sure that they create a look that is natural to the individual’s own beauty and personality. The goal for all plastic surgeons is to create symmetry and proportion in a realistic and natural way.
What is plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery is a specialized branch of surgery concerned with deformities and defects of the underlying musculoskeletal framework.
The word plastic derives from the Greek word “plasitos” meaning to mold, to shape or to create; its use here is not connected with the synthetic polymer known as plastic.
The origins of the art of plastic surgery roots in ancient history. They were performed to relieve deformities of the face. In particular the reconstruction of the amputated nose, which was done for punishment, and the restoration of the individual defect.
Desavit used the term PLASTICQE in 1798. It was part of the title of Zeis’s book Handbook deer Pastiche Chirurgic in 1838.
In most countries, the term Plastic Surgery designates the specialty. The process of plastic surgery is the changing and rebuilding of various parts of the body that one cannot change about themselves. Reconstructive surgery is the rebuilding of deformities of the body.
